Memories of this Children’s Treatment Centre fundraiser could last forever.

A father and son team in Cornwall has planned a James Bondthemed event that’ll have the feel of a Hollywood premiere, a special screening of the iconic 1995 spy film Goldeneye on Oct. 21, at a Port Theatre that will look even better than when it opened 80 years ago.

“It’ll be a very luxurious evening,” promised Sean Adams, a Cornwall lawyer who has spent years both behind the scenes in fundraising and out front as a public face of the CTC, the organization that has helped thousands of children in the region since opening 27 years ago in 1996.

The event will have a very special guest from Los Angeles – Goldeneye screenwriter Bruce Feirstein in attendance to introduce the movie and have a question-and-answer period afterwards.

Many members of the Cornwall community that are starring in this special night, supporters of the event including Dr. Dany Tombler – he’s made available a 1965 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud for guests to enjoy while strolling the red carpet on the way into the venue – Tom Kaneb and Mike Aube with their generous donations, the crew at Clean All, the team at Dubuc Eye Care Centre who’ll make hundreds of parking spots available for the gathering.

The other member of the Adams team making the memories happen is Sean’s son Nikolai, a Cornwall movie critic whose filmizon. com is presenting the event.

“I’m kind of like (Sean’s) wingman,” said Nikolai, of course a long-time CTC supporter but who for this fundraiser took a leading role when he brainstormed ideas to support the Port Theatre on Montreal Road, a refurbished and once-again popular entertainment hall that’s in the process of having its historic exterior sign and marquee restored.

With one of Sean Adams’ major CTC fundraising projects, the annual Boxing for Change, KO’D by COVID -19 a few years ago, the family began thinking outside the ring at ideas for raising money for a vital centre that has its service in constant demand. What the Adamses have come up with includes a live auction hosted by a professional auctioneer, unique items up for grab such as three separate signed photographs from Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Richard Kiel (aka Jaws), and original movie posters from multiple Bond films that have been donated by OC Dugout of Anaheim, Cali., and Hollywood Canteen of Toronto.

There are limited-edition posters designed by Stacey Case of the Cornwall Stamp Co. available for purchase, and the first 150 guests to arrive receiving a long-stem rose from Flowers Cornwall and with a number attached and for an opportunity to win a specially-made diamond necklace courtesy of Pommier Jewellers.

Bond themes will play over the speakers as guests arrive, ushers from Toronto clad in black tuxedos will greet them, attendees will have their photo taken with a lifesize standee of Pierce Brosnan, massive original French Grande posters for the three films written by Feirstein will be on display, and beverages including James Bond’s favourite from bars set up throughout the venue are available.
“(Martinis) shaken, not stirred,” Sean Adams said.

The event managed to get expedited approval to be held – organizers only got word in August that it would be a go for this fall. And, having Feirstein in attendance is considered quite a coup – the writer of the first three Pierce Brosnan Bond features, including Tomorrow Never Dies, and The World is Not Enough, will be graciously flying in from L.A. to engage the gathering the Port.

Do note it’s a “no cellphone event,” the Bond franchise being very protective of its property. That means the Oct 21 spectacle will truly be for Cornwall eyes only, but, several professional photographers will be covering every angle at the theatre including from Roy’s Studio and Icelevel Photography; pictures will be made available free of charge not long after the soirée.

Tickets are very limited and cost $70, which includes a drink ticket, and are available at the Port Theatre box office, open from 1 to 4 p.m. daily, or when a movie is being shown. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with the show starting promptly at 6:30 p.m.
